Gender Identity

Here are examples from the body of work I produced in the second term this year. With this project I developed a better understanding of contemporary image making by exploring the underlying social dynamics with in this series of portraits, which looks at the representation of masculinity.
Exploring typologies I photographed individuals from groups of rowers, dancers and cheerleaders. My finals were presented on boards, which were made up of four portraits taken from one of these three groups, focusing on each individual as well as looking at the relationship of each within the group.
Each sitter is photographed in a passport style portrait against a plain background showing neutral expressions, giving little insight into the identity of the sitter apart from aspects such as their clothing, which ties them to their groups.
